Sara graduated from Tel Aviv University with BSc in chemistry and masters in biochemistry. Her thesis was on purification and activity of proteins. She has done protein chemistry in the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel and in the VA. Some of these projects include: Solubilization and reconstitution of Ca-ATPase from muscle in Uri Pick’s lab, H-K ATPase from stomach in George Sachs’ lab, inhibition of active sites with a fluorescent dye resembling ATP, uptake of Ca++ ions and K+ ions. She then went on to work with GC-MS in Paul Lee’s lab at LAbiomed (formerly Harbor UCLA-REI.) They utilized stable isotopes for metabolic studies of diabetes, cancer, inborn errors of metabolism and other diseases. She is now working half time with Julian Whitelegge and the other half with Mark Doolittle in the VA. Mark is working on maturation of Lipase proteins, so the identification of proteins involved in proper folding of these enzymes is done in the MS lab. Julian was delighted to be reminded of old colleagues when he saw Sara’s resume as he happens to know Uri Pick, George Sachs and Paul Lee. Sara is happy to learn to run samples on the Sciex and the Qstar.
